Heterogeneous ion exchange membrane

PEheterogeneous ion exchange membrane is made from styrene sulfonic acid type cation exchange resin and styrene quartermary ammonium type anion exchange resin,whth PE as adhesive agent.They are plasticated on two rool mills set on nylon web and laminated in PE cation exchange membrane (hereinafter referred to as asion membrane).

  • Principle:

Cation membrane contains strongly acidic group R-SO¯3 with negatively electric field so that ions with positive charge can be attracted and pass through the membrane.Anion membrane contains strongly basic group R-CH2N+(CH3)3 with positive electric field so that ions with negative charge can be attracted and pass through the membrane.

  • Applications:

PE Heterogeneous ion exchange membrane,containing sufficient fixed groups and dissociated ions,has a definite selectivity and conductivity on charged ions.It is widely used in electrochemical industry for separation of different kinds of ions .For example,it can be used to desalinate sea water and brackish water,to concentrate or desalinate solution,to prepare inorganic compounds electrolyically,to recover and purify radioactive elements,to soften and desalinate water ofr boiler,and to process industrial products in electronics,pharmaceuticals,chemical engineering ,food,coal,metallrugy and other industries.

  • Precautions:

1、The membrane should be stored in a clean,cool,dry and well ventilated warehouse,No exposure to direct sunlight and rail or mechanical damage should happen during transportation.

  2、Before using,heterogeneous ion exchange membrane should be piled crossly and immersed in clean water for 2-3 days after being cut off the unwanted web on the edges.

  3、Since after use cation membrane usually shrinks slightly while anion membrane still expands,it is advisable to further treat the membrane in following manner:

   A、Anion membrane is further immersed in soft or distilled water to effect contraction;

   B、Cation membrane is further immersed in salt water to effect contraction.

  4、The membranes should be tailored and punched according to the size of spacer.The area of membrane should be a little smaller than that of spacer.

  5、Acid wash period of membrane depends on the dirtiness on the surface.It is worth noting that the concentration of hydrochlorc acid used in acid wash should not exceed 3%.In the beginning,HCI is quickly consumed and should be replenished until the consumption ceases in 1-2hours.After acid wash,rinse the membrane with original water until pH=4-5(about 10 minutes).After that,the membrane may be put into operation.

  6、The membrane that has been punched should be installed into electrodialyzer as early as possible.To store membrane in wet state,it'd better immerse membranes in clean water,dry them and then pack them in plastics bag.

  7、Requirement for feed water

     (1)turbidity≤0.3ppm;(2)Oxygen consumption≤2ppm;(3)Chlorine content≤0.2ppm;(4)lron content≤0.3ppm;(5)Manganese content≤0.1ppm;(6)water temperature5-40℃;(7)Hardness:the water with a hardness above 900ppm should be softened;(8)Silt density index(SDI)＜5
